Date with .NET…

February 26, 2006 | 6:46 pm
Well, It’s been really really really overdue. It should’ve been here on the 13th of February, but it’s here only on the 26th of February. And, that’s also because Shiva’s Blogged about it before me. Well, well done Shiva, you beat me to it:D

Well, it’s about the Date With .NET, my Second ever Microsoft Event. This one was only for Students, unlike my First Event, which was mainly for Professionals. But, as it turned out, they had a bit different interpretation of the word Students : College Students. Infact, we were the only School Students there. Kinda makes you feel good, doesn’t it ? Especially if a College was answering “Amarnath Reddy”[Whoever it is] as the guy who sent the first Email….

The First event was[ofcourse] the keynote, by the Vice Chancellor of Anna University. The things that happened when he came on to speak virtually killed us six students from shock : The College Students started booing and clapping, virtually not allowing him to speak! He Virtually had to hasten himself to leave… Well, and I was thinking that our School kids were bad…

Then came the event about VC++2005. Well, it was quite some Mixed reactions in our Group, since one[Krihna] just hated C/C++, while two more, Shiva and Abu, just sorta Loved it. But, when that guy started Bashing Turbo C for obvious reasons and giving concrete reasons for them, both Abu and Shiva were won over. And, when he showed what you can do in VC++ but can’t in TC, Shiva had become such a Convert that he had both the Windows Platform SDK, DirectX 9.0 SDK as well as VC++2005 Express installed in his system the very next day, notwithstanding that the next day was his Exams![And he’s a guy who takes exams seriously, you know:P].

Anyway, poor guys, three of them had to leave at half-time for some sorta Dance Practice, which left Me, Abu and Krishna for the Quiz and the second event about Data Mining in SQL Server. Well, I think I got quite some of the answers in the Quiz correct : I got the $1 CEO Question correct, as Steve Jobs. And, thing is, I could answer quite a number of questions on the actual Quiz Finals. Sortof, looks like wherever I go, the final quiz is a lot easier than the Prelims[Wasn’t that supposed to be the other way round ]. Anyway, most of the [troublesome] college Guys had left at half-time too, so this one was much Quiter, though that Amarnath Reddy Gang was still there….

Well, sorta looks like I’m allergic to Databases[Strange, considering my Cousin Sudar is an MCDBA/Linux-Sun-OSS Guy]. Even in the last event I attended, I sorta couldn’t get a thing of that SQL Server Session. Maybe, I’d try learning more Database Stuff in my post-Public Exam Holidays…

But, the event started only at 12′O Clock, but we were there by 9:30, and the most eventful time was from 10:00 to 11:30. More on that later…

Anyway, My Brother’s Started Cringing already, to play some stupid Cricket. So, fancy going to his blog and advising him to something useful, like, say write a Blog ?[If I say that, that’d be World War III].

Just one more bit added to this long long long post : I’m thinking of listening to some Podcasts/Vediocasts/Screencasts. First choice, ofcourse, was Channel9. But, I’m having a lot of trouble downloading Vedeo from Channel9 : First I was getting a Not Authorized Exception, and now a Device not Ready Exception. I was able to get the Screencasts and Podcasts in though, so this thing still Preplexes me. Any Help Guys ? I’m using Free Download Manager on recommendation from My Cousin Sudar.

And, What Podcasts do you Listen to ? I’m looking for some good Podcasts, so if you know of any, just drop in a Comment..

Thanks, and keep the Comments coming….

Blogging From Flock

| 9:07 am
Haha! How nice it is to actually be Blogging from a Normal[?] Windows Application instead of from a TextArea. Anyway, Thanks to Ramesh for reccomending Flock to me. And, yeah it works….

However, there’s one really really really really strange thing. Longtime readers of my Blog will remember BaBIE, one of my First .NET Projects. It’s quite well Documented in my now-defunct Projects Blog. Strange thing is, of the 13 things listed here as main features of Flock, 9 of them are Features originally designated for BaBIE! Coincidence, huh ?

Maybe, I could restart BaBIE from scratch sometime later[The Old Code is full of Bad Coding Practices that makes me Shudder after reading Joel On Software.]

Thanks, and Keep the Comments coming….

Smilidon..

| 8:41 am
Well, I’ve started working on scrillions of projects, which eventually got too idle to progress, and are lying quitely on a Drive D[now H, due to my Recent Linux Crash] in my Harddisk, waiting for their time….

One such thing is Smilidon. It never got off the Blank-Project-With-Just-Class1.vb stage. But, however, when I got home after finishing my Public Practicals, I just didn’t want to study Tamil[I didn’t want to sleep:D]. So, I just revisited H:\YuviProjects, and started off with Smilidon…Well, a bit of backgrounder about Smilidon : It was inspired by CMD[the DOS Emulation layer on Windows]/Monad/bash. So, I think you should’ve guessed what it is now : A Command line Interface, with the Power of bash/Monad and simplicity of CMD.exe…

Ok, enough BashingBragging. Here’s the Code. It’s hosted on eSnips. I’ve released 0.0.1.1 and 0.0.1.2 versions. I showed the 0.0.1.1 version to Ramesh yesterday morning, and he was, sortof, Impressed by Code Quality, though I donno if it was worth it. So people, why don’t you download 0.0.1.2 and see if that code Quality thing is worth it ? Fancy I’d be knowing much Better in College…

And, thanks to Aswin for pointing me to eSnips : They offer 1 GB of free Storage and are still in Beta. Their Client logs me off freqently, but, I still sortof like their interface sooo much that I’m sticking with them….. There’s Scheduled Downtime of some of their servers today and tomorrow, but I haven’t been having any problems till now….

One more thing though : After reading quite a lot of Joel on Software articles, I just can’t resist but want Source Control and Such Kinda stuff for my Code. But, problem is, since I’m using the Express editions, neither Visual SourceSafe nor the GotDotNET Source Control Systems work with it. Any Suggestions guys ?

And this time, I’d want you people to get a copy of that Code, and comment on how it is. OK ? And, Not Like Last time :D

Thanks, and Keep the comments coming….

Yipee! 100%!

February 24, 2006 | 10:01 pm
Just a Quick one : I’ve secured 100% on my Public Exam! Yep! That’s 100% true. No Comedy here. But, it wasn’t hard. Yep. Getting 120 out of 120 in your Practicals isn’t a Problem, is it ?:P

Anyway, finished Zoology Practicals today, and Botany Yesterday, and they were a complete contrast to my Physics and Chemistry Practicals, in that I got the Mohl’s half leaf thing for Botany, easily the toughest experiment for us. But, due to some midnight oil, I just cracked it and got it perfect. And, you do have a really fantastic feeling of great confidence inside you when your Diagram Perfectionist Biology Teacher comes over and sortof says something like : “I’m soooooo proud of you dude. I just sortof thought you’re goanna screw up this diagram, but your’s was easily the Best Mohl’s half-leaf this Batch. Wonderful”[He didn’t mention all thos artistic guys didn’t get Mohl’s Half Leaf, but hey, I need some confidence, right ?:D]And, Zoology was quite same as well. Kinda strange that I’ve been getting Hydra, the only Slide Diagram that requires something more than scriblling all year long. I got Hydra for all my Tests so far, and this time around, I managed to do it quite satisfactorilly, thanks to some more midnight oil… And then, there was that dreaded Kidney and Lungs, which I cleared[again with Midnight Oil:D]. Looks like I won’t be having midnight oil to burn for quite some while now, though I’d be having the 2nd Revision starting on Monday, beginning with the dreaded Tamil Exam First…

Well, It’s less than 30 days to my Public Exam from today, so just Wish me Good Luck, along with all the best and all that stuff:D

Thanks, and Keep the comments coming….

Finished Chemistry…

February 23, 2006 | 7:05 am

Well, Finished up Chemistry Yesterday. Got Copper Chloride, quite easy, though not as easy as I’dve liked it to be. External Examiner just sat there, eating Bondas and Drinking Tea, so none of our Boys had any problems;)

On a sadder note, just bit my teeth very very very badly while eating yesterday. Could hardly talk. Hope to get back to normal soon…

Got Botany Practicals today, and the Dreaded Zoology Ones Torrow. Wish me Luck, guys:D

Cleared Physics Practicals Today..

February 20, 2006 | 6:34 pm

Well, Cleared my Physics Practicals Today. The external was quite silent, and sortof, I just got it quite right. I got the verification of Ohm’s Law thingy, which is easily quite the easiest of our 10 Experiments. So, think I got the full 20, though I won’t know till July…

Practical Exams…

February 19, 2006 | 8:31 pm

Well, Next week is full of Public Practical Exams, so wish me luck:D I’d crack up Physics and Chemistry with Ease. I’ve practiced enough to be confident about Botany Drawings, but I can’t say the same for Zoology Drawings:( Hope I could get Kidney of Sheep/Brain of Sheep/Lungs of Sheep/Heart of Sheep up and running…:D

Wish me Luck guys:)

Blog Redesign…

February 15, 2006 | 8:08 pm

Well, I just wanted to spice up my Blog even more, So I’ve started a Redisign. I’m halfway through the Sidebar now. Mind you, just half-way, so, I don’t expect it to be all neat, though it’s quite better than the last one I had. And, I hope to complete it somewhere Next week….

Speed-Testing Blog Search Engines…

| 5:39 pm

Well well well, if you’ve been to Technorati.com recently, you’dve seen an unheard-of-before word called brrreeeport in the Top Searches, and the Hot Tags as well. Shows how powerfull a single post[actually, second half of a single post] with a title that doesn’t relate to the contents can do to the Blogsphere…..

So, here it goes : I’ve said the word brrreeeport before, and I am saying it again : brrreeeport. And, I’ve also tagged this Post brrreeeport…

On that note, maybe, I’m thinking of Technorati Tagging all my Posts if I could get some time on my hands, which is running out quickly since the Public Exams are just about a Month from now….

Tagging takes on…

February 14, 2006 | 7:42 pm

Well, when I started my instance of the game of Blogger Tagging, I actually didn’t have any idea that it’d be getting this kinda a Response. So, I’d be tracking the list of people who have responded to the tags in my Blog Sidebar[Sorry guys, this blog is hosted on blogger.com, so I can’t create an extra RSS Feed:(]. I’d make it a flat list in decreasing chronological order, so that the ones who responded the latest would be on top, while the ones who responded first would be below : Very much like the Blog arrangement….

| 6:58 pm

Well, I have more to say, but this thing’s gotta be here first : My Friend Shivram, as well as Krishna Prasad have started Blogging! Well, I’ve promised them a ton of comments, so hope you hlp me keep my promise…

Well, first a bit about Shiva(Shivram). He’s in 11th STD, and was the School first last time with 952 Marks out of Thousand, and was the State 3rd Rank. Fantastic Guy, and what’s more encouraging to a blogger than a ton of comments on your first Post ? And, did I mention he’s the culturals secretary of our School ?

And, Krishna was our School third last time, and he’s a fantastic guy as well. And, yep he’s our school NSS Seceratary as well, so give him a ton of comments as well…

And, in the meantime, don’t forget Abu, our School’s Robo-Geek. Give him a ton of comments as well:D

Thanks, and Keep the comments coming….

Tagging..

February 11, 2006 | 6:50 pm

Well, before I get tagged by someone else, I’d stay on the safe side and start a tag-chain of my own. Unlike the other one, this one is quite Geeky…

Well, it has the following conditions:

  • The Tagged victim has to come up with the specifications of their dream personal computer
  • The Specifications have to be feasible : They atleast have to be in the lab. So, you can’t ask for the Google Supercomputer :D
  • The Victim needs to tag atleast two more people. If you are tagged again, you have to start the process again if the dream computer specification has changed

Well, I’d start with my Dream Computer Specifications:

  • Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.6 GHz with HT Technology
  • 2 GB DDR2 RAM
  • 160 GB SATA Hard Disk
  • nVIDIA GeForce 4 Graphics Card
  • 21″ TFT Monitor
  • Water Cooling mechanism
  • 4 MBPS Dedicated Internet Line without any bandwidth limits
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Internet Explorer 7
  • Microsoft Virtual PC
  • A DVD/CD Writer
  • A Top-Class Audio Card with 3D Synthesizing, Hardware MIDI as well as Dolby Support
  • A World class Speaker Set

Well, for a start, I’m tagging Sunil and Aswin. Let’s see how this turns out to be…

Learning by Experience…

February 10, 2006 | 9:29 pm

Well, somethings you can learn from other’s experience, but other things, you can only learn from Experience. Well, one of those things is that even a very small bit of Zinc Sulphate on your Tongue can almost destroy your Taste buds sooooooo much that you cannot taste anything tasty even after 3 Full Days:(
