LaughStock: FSF launches BadVista.org. Oh the Irony!

December 21, 2006 | 9:39 am

Via Sunil Jagadish, the FSF launches BadVista.org. The purpose is clear from the url, ain’t it?

I just gave it a visit, and the first sight I had got me ROFL…

I had to clip the image. Here’s the full text:

This website wants to run the following add-on: ‘MSXML 5.0′ from ‘Microsoft Corporation’. If you trust the website and addon and want to allow it to run, click here…

From the website:

Can you set yourself or your company free? Can you ever be free from Microsoft?

Oh the Irony! Oh the Irony! I can’t stop laughing! Oh my!

Yeah, I do know that it wasn’t the fault of the FSF: I think they just used some JS code that accessed the XML DOM. And, if I had used Firefox, I wouldn’t have seen it. But, still….:D

“Vista is an upsell masquerading as an upgrade. It is an overall regression when you look at the most important aspect of owning and using a computer: your control over what it does. Obviously MS Windows is already proprietary and very restrictive, and well worth rejecting. But the new ‘features’ in Vista are a Trojan Horse to smuggle in even more restrictions. We’ll be focusing attention on detailing how they work, how to resist them, and why people should care”, said FSF program administrator John Sullivan.

ROTFL LMAO

Hi Sunil,

I deleted your comment from the site because the issue had already been mentioned in another comment, and because your characterization of it is inflammatory. An “advertisement for Microsoft”? You have to already be using Microsoft to see that message, and it’s just a warning about our use of XML.

But it’s true that the fact that the warning appears is a bug in the version of Plone that we’re using, and we’ll probably fix it soon.

Hm, just as funny as going to a Chinese web site with Internet Explorer and IE asks, “Do you want to install Microsoft Chinese language extensions?”

Haha, these weird Chinese people…

@johns: You don’t go to an alchoholics-anonymous site and be presented with a message asking you wether you’d like to drink a can of beer, right?

I don’t have any problems with you using MSXML, but the fact that turned up in a site advising against using Microsoft’s products is funny…

Silly site and sillier people :)
