Network with people, professors, colleagues, seniors.. that will decide where you end up in life. Also, if you do have ragging (still) in Indian colleges, remember to downplay your abilities. If your name is known, a lot of people will give you shit (for the first few weeks), but some of them will end up being your best pals. Have fun.
